The toughest part of New Year’s resolutions for me is that my goals are constantly changing, thereby making it difficult to commit to a year of one particular task, despite my best efforts. Often times, I experiment and find that a resolution needs tweaking because of how it turns out in reality.
My goal to post weekly thoughts on news items is already in transition. After posting the first week’s notes, I realized that there is far too much going on in the world to focus on just a few items without giving any of them the justice they deserve. That brought me to my second news-related post this year, an op-ed piece on the aftermath of the Tucson shootings, which I found immensely rewarding to ponder and write. Therefore, going forward, I will stick to op-ed pieces about a particular topic or news event that provokes a reaction from me, whether a few sentences or a bit of an essay.
So, no news wrap today, but I will leave you with the wise words of President Barack Obama, who spoke at a Tucson memorial service this week. It’s lengthy but incredible food for thought:
